Let the Games begin

On the streets of East Haven, River Quinn is training tirelessly with her loyal friend, Ruthless, desperate to prevent Lysander's niece, Scarlett Hood, from winning the wealth and political influence awarded in the Guardian Games. When an unexpected knee injury jeopardizes River's ability to qualify, it risks her chances of blocking Lysander's play for power. If things couldn't get any worse, new details regarding her mother's death are revealed, and River sees red.

Meanwhile, the handsome high side doctor, Addax Tate, keeps an annoyingly close eye on River and offers help. But for someone who relies on no one but herself, it's a lot to ask. River wants to trust him, but can you ever truly trust a highsider?

My Thoughts:  This is book two of the series and they must be read in order.   Book two picks up exactly where book one left off.   I was pulled right back into River Quinn’s struggle to knock the highsiders off their pedestal.

This book takes us to River Quinn being the Water Thief and part of the Guardian Games.  The Guardian Games have a Hunger Games feel, where everything is stacked against her but she has the people’s support since she is one of them.   There is danger at every turn, but River knows how to live in a dangerous world.    I loved seeing her strength come through, not just in her muscles but her in smarts and common sense.

River Quinn and her friends are Robin Hood characters.   They are poor but are not willing to accept that they have to stay that way or be treated as lesser citizens.   They are willing to put themselves in danger to help others.   The trust they have in each other is not taken from granted and they know that it is hard earned.

There is another book to come in this series and I cannot wait!   I am so hooked on the story and the characters.

Thank you to the author for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.
