2020 in Reviews... Books I've Reviewed in July 2020

Morgan All she was supposed to do was step into her twin’s perfect life for a little while and take an opportunity to be the fun one for once. To know what it felt like to really live. The last thing she ever meant to do was fall for her sister’s husband. How can something that is so wrong feel so right? Jasen His wife had become almost like a roommate over the past few years. The distance between them had been insurmountable. Until recently. Something about her is … different. She’s warmer, softer somehow. Jasen is shocked to find himself falling in love with his gorgeous wife all over again. But… is she really his wife?

When tragedy strikes, Morgan is forced to choose between continuing the lie and owning up to her deception. Doing the right thing could mean losing the only man she’s ever loved, but can a relationship built on betrayal ever truly last? More importantly, will Jasen even want her when he learns the truth—or will the price of forgiveness simply be more than he’s willing to pay?

My Thoughts...

Twins where one married the man the other had a crush on in high school.   The married twin decides she does not want to live her life anymore and begs the twin with the crush to take her place.   Sounds like trouble waiting to happen.   Let me say that it was trouble with a capital T and it was so good to read about.

I found The Deceptive Twin to be easy to read, fun to read, I read it quickly and loved every word.    The dynamic between Morgan and Monroe was different.   Usually, twins are super close but these two lived entirely different lives and did not get along so well.     When Monroe asks Morgan to take over for her there was no doubt that sparks would ignite between Morgan and Jasen.   I loved watching Morgan try to put herself out there as Monroe without giving up the values that she has lived her entire life by.

Jasen was interesting.   He wanted his marriage to work so badly that he overlooked all the clues that something was off about his wife.   I loved that he wanted it to work but I did wonder how he could miss all the clues that Morgan was giving off.    His reactions as the story continued and things changed between him and Morgan were spot on.   They were realistic and true to what he really wanted in life.

Feeling her life is at a standstill, Jill McCallister jumps at the chance to visit Morgan’s Grove, the town founded by her great-great-great-grandfather. Eager to discover her roots and do research for a new book, she drives from Colorado to Texas, excited to meet the inhabitants of her grandfather’s legacy.

Jill immerses herself in the charming community, enjoying the residents and their quirky traditions. When she meets the mysterious Rick Wright, she almost forgets she’s sworn off men, but she’s not willing to risk getting too involved, especially since she will be returning home in a few weeks.

When the winter festival kicks into high gear, Jill and Rick are thrown together to work on a project, and sparks soon fly. Although she fights it, Jill can’t help falling hard for his soulful eyes and flirty smile. But as tempting as Rick is, he’s hiding something, and the mystery writer in Jill is determined to discover his secret.

With the clock running out on her time in Morgan’s Grove, Jill needs to decide what “home” really means to her.

My Thoughts...

I love a good small town, sweet contemporary romance story.   Traci Borum wrote exactly what I was looking for.    Jill is an author struggling to find her next story, Rick is a successful man who has realized that being successful is not all that he wants in life.   As their friendship grows, their feelings develop, and they both find what is important to them.

The small town of Morgan Grove is rich in history and full of wonderful citizens.   I love how the citizens were quick to share their stories, tell their histories, and accept Jill into their town.    Morgan Grove is also home to Jill’s ancestors.    She arrives to find out more about her ancestors and learns so much more than she expected.

Love Starts Here is a fun story.  It was easy to read, quick to fall into, and had a story that was perfect for a summer read.

Beth, Portia, and Eddie Morgan haven't all been together in years. And for very good reasons—we'll get to those later. But when their wealthy grandfather dies and leaves a cryptic final message in his wake, the siblings and their respective partners must come together for a cross-country road trip to fulfill his final wish and—more importantly—secure their inheritance.

But time with your family can be tough. It is for everyone.

It's even harder when you're all keeping secrets and trying to forget a memory—a missing person, an act of revenge, the man in the black truck who won't stop following your car—and especially when at least one of you is a killer and there's a body in the trunk. Just to name a few reasons.

But money is a powerful motivator. It is for everyone.

My Thoughts…
What did I read?   It started as a story of 3 siblings along with 2 of their spouses going on a trip across the country while retracing a trip they took with their grandfather years earlier.    Then people were being followed, things went missing, there were deaths, missing people, drugging’s, and so much more.
He Started It is a slow read.   It kept me entertained but it didn’t move at a fast pace.   There was a lot of details to the locations and the reasons for the stops along the way.  The details were all necessary due to the tying together of the two trips.   I was intrigued at the different places they stopped and the memories of what happen at each stop.   The characters all had their own memories of the trip but they came together for a very intriguing story.
The ending… I just don’t even know what to say!   Holy Moly!!!

My Thoughts...

Let me just say the names…Zev Braden and Carly Dylan.    Doesn’t that sound perfect together?   Guess what, they are perfect together.   They’ve been together since they were in elementary school, dated in high school, and then as they grew into young adults and life threw them some curveballs that they didn’t know how to handle so they fell apart.   Yet, their love for each other never left them and when they meet again as adults, with their lives in order, the love they share comes shining through.  Now, I say their love shines through but holy heat!   The sparks were flying when their eyes met across the room and no matter how hard they tried not to recognize what was still between them the heat never let up.

I really enjoyed that they had a happy history together.   That they loved each other and had many happy adventures and memories.  This helped them rebuild their relationship because they had such a strong friendship base.   They did not forget what had happened in the past, but they talked about it, argued about it, and then realized that the past did not have to stop them from finding the happily ever after.

Pick up this book, meet these amazing characters and their wonderful friends, and love the town of Pleasant Hills-Oak Falls.    Searching for Love is the perfect book to fall into and never want to leave.
