Review for A Stranger on the Beach by Michele Campbell

Hardcover, 352 pages
Expected publication: July 23rd 2019 by St. Martin's Press

There is a stranger outside Caroline's house.

Her spectacular new beach house, built for hosting expensive parties and vacationing with the family she thought she'd have. But her husband is lying to her and everything in her life is upside down, so when the stranger, Aiden, shows up as a bartender at the same party where Caroline and her husband have a very public fight, it doesn't seem like anything out of the ordinary.

As her marriage collapses around her and the lavish lifestyle she's built for herself starts to crumble, Caroline turns to Aiden for comfort...and revenge. After a brief and desperate fling that means nothing to Caroline and everything to him, Aiden's obsession with Caroline, her family, and her house grows more and more disturbing. And when Caroline's husband goes missing, her life descends into a nightmare that leaves her accused of her own husband's murder.

My Thoughts…

I am not sure what I think.

The suspense and the thriller aspect were wonderful!   I enjoyed guessing at what was going to happen next, if Caroline would finally tell Aiden to go away, if Aiden would finally leave Caroline alone, and whatever Jason was doing…he needed to stop.

The way the chapters were laid out was odd to me.   I didn’t love how the chapters alternated between Caroline and Aiden.  I felt like it was repetitive a lot of the time and didn’t always add much to the actual story.   There were times that I was entirely confused on if the chapters were telling the same story or two entirely separate stories.

All I can add to my review is HOLY CRAP!  the ending was entirely unseen.   I had no clue that was how it would end and I loved it!   The story moves along quickly, there are some parts you can skim over as they’ve already been told.    But the ending is worth reading the book for.   It will shock you and leave you wondering how you ever missed what was happening.
