Along the Infinite Sea by Beatriz Williams

Published November 3, 2015 by G.P. Putnam’s Sons

Each of the three Schuyler sisters has her own world-class problems, but in the autumn of 1966, Pepper Schuyler's problems are in a class of their own. When Pepper fixes up a beautiful and rare vintage Mercedes and sells it at auction, she thinks she's finally found a way to take care of herself and the baby she carries, the result of an affair with a married, legendary politician.

But the car's new owner turns out to have secrets of her own, and as the glamorous and mysterious Annabelle Dommerich takes pregnant Pepper under her wing, the startling provenance of this car comes to light: a Nazi husband, a Jewish lover, a flight from Europe, and a love so profound it transcends decades. As the many threads of Annabelle's life from World War II stretch out to entangle Pepper in 1960s America, and the father of her unborn baby tracks her down to a remote town in coastal Georgia, the two women must come together to face down the shadows of their complicated pasts.

Indomitable heroines, a dazzling world of secrets, champagne at the Paris Ritz, and a sweeping love story for the ages, in New York Times bestselling author Beatriz William's final book about the Schuyler sisters.

My Thoughts…

There are times when reading a book with two different time periods it can get confusing.    Beatrix Williams did it perfectly.   She kept the time periods separate, the stories separate yet intertwined, and did it with amazing style.     I loved that Pepper had her story, the present, and Annabelle had her story,    the past, yet their two stories came together perfectly.     Although, I have to say that I was not exactly sure how Annabelle and Pepper actual came together.  I mean Annabelle kind of kidnapped Pepper, there was no real tie between the two of them.

One thing that stuck out to me is how promiscuous the women in this story were in the past, at least in this book.    The women in this book were strong, sure of themselves, and not afraid to go against the norm.    No matter the situation they stayed strong and sure in the path they wanted to head.     Yet, Annabelle fell in love and let her heart lead her way.

The entire story is wonderful.   I could not put this historical fiction down.  Page after page, chapter after chapter I found myself being pulled farther and farther into Annabelle and Pepper’s stories.    I became invested in the characters.  I was not just reading a book, I was living a life alongside these two amazing women.

I recommend picking up your own copy of Along the Infinite Sea.
